Old School

Another side-trip Mike and I took while visiting London, was a trip to Cambridge, England. Cambridge is about an hour and 20 minutes north of London, and it’s a college town. It’s so collegiate, I bought a college sweatshirt as soon as I got into town (and I love it, by the way). It’s also so collegiate that driving into town isn’t really permitted. There are several “car parks” so you can park and ride, or you can drive a bit further into the city and park and walk. Mike and I chose option number 2.

Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs

While we were walking we came upon this church: The Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs

Our second stop (remember, I bought the sweatshirt first) was to visit the University of Cambridge (the second oldest university in the English speaking world). And even though it’s officially named the University of Cambridge, people refer to it as Cambridge University.  It’s pretty much like calling the University of Oklahoma, “OU.”  Well, sort of. (Go Sooners!) At any rate, there were several tours going on and we could have visited the chapel on campus and some other places, but this sign scared us off.

It didn’t really scare us off, we just decided to take a few pictures and keep moving.

When we finally stopped to have lunch, we went to a place called Nanna Mexico. This place was great! It’s one of those build-your-own burrito places, and their burritos were so big, we had to share. Great place. Great food.

We went to the mall while we were there (can’t go to a new city without stopping at the mall). But we didn’t buy anything (I already had my sweatshirt). Well, we did get some tea and coffee at a local place called Costa Coffee. We liked it. It’s always nice visiting new coffee shops in the different cities we visit.  However, I always seem to find something I can never get back home. Oh well…

Before we left the mall and the city of Cambridge, two students came up to me and asked me to participate in a survey. Do I look like a local… still? Well, actually, they were from the Netherlands. So, I don’t think they knew the locals from the tourists.

It was a fun, short, side-trip.
