Enough About London Already

Day three in London:

Okay, this was a pretty good day.  It was sunny and warmer (still cool, but beggars can’t be choosers), so we decided to do some more touristy stuff. Now, my husband loves to see cities from on high. So we usually visit very tall buildings. This time we decided to take to the sky via the London Eye.  The last time we were in London (yes, 9 years ago), we walked right by the London Eye.  We even debated whether or not we should get on it. There was no line, nothing.  In the end, we decided against it.

Well, this time was not like the last time. It was teeming with people. The line was down the street.  But it was moving pretty quickly, so we didn’t complain too much.

If you like having a bird’s eye view of the city, it’s great fun.  And because the pod you’re in is constantly moving, you see the city from a slightly different angle every few minutes. It helps if the people in your pod aren’t blocking valuable real estate with strollers and bags…but that’s better left to another post.

I call this the London Eye Pod. You can get quite a few people in this thing.

After leaving the London Eye, we decided to do some shopping. And no trip to London is complete without a trip to Harrods.  I keep telling myself that I will go in and ask for something crazy (Harrods is known for being able to deliver on any request). But just my luck, they will have one of “those” in the back. So, I keep my wish list small and my requests reasonable: shortbread cookies, tea, shopping bag and key chain. Besides, I can fit all that stuff in my luggage.

(I found a Muji store on the bottom floor.) I bought more cookies here, but I also bought some cupcakes (not to take home).  They have a Lola’s Cupcakes inside (http://www.lolas-kitchen.co.uk). I have never tasted a better cupcake (and that includes cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery in New York).  They have cute little mini cupcakes as well as the standard size.  They have a myriad of flavors, and I forget which ones I ordered, but they were all delicious.

By the time we were leaving Selfridges, it started to rain…no, pour.  We waited a beat, then headed to parts unknown.  I stopped in a Boots store, just because.

We made our way back to our hotel via the Liverpool train station. This is where all the trains converge, so you can get on a train to practically anywhere.  It’s also a nice looking station.  We had a bit of time to kill, so I went into a Lush store (for a few more luggage friendly items).

We had a great time in London. It’s one of few cities I’m sure I wouldn’t mind visiting again and again. But the next time we visit, we’ll make sure there isn’t a 9-year time gap.
